Banyak manfaat yang didapat saat menjadi seorang jurnalis. Manfaat tersebut antara lain sebagai sumber informasi, mengkritisi kebijakan pemerintah, dan sebagai alat politik. Setiap orang dapat merasakan manfaatnya kini yaitu informasi yang disajikan selalu terbaru dan menarik. Jurnalis tidak hanya dapat dilakukan oleh orang yang berprofesi sebagai wartawan saja, akan tetapi setiap orang dapat menjadi jurnalis misalnya dengan membuat web blogdi dunia maya.
Jurnalis dapat memberikan informasi mengenai hal-hal yang terjadi disekitar lingkungan. Informasi ini sangat bermanfaat bagi orang lain karena tidak semua orang mengetahui kejadian itu langsung melalui panca indera mereka sehingga dibutuhkan informasi yang tepat dengan perantara media massa.
Seorang jurnalis juga dapat mengkritisi kebijakan yang dilakukan pemerintah. Kebijakan pemerintah yang tidak selalu berpihak pada rakyat yang dapat menyengsarakan kehidupan rakyat. Jika kebijakan ini tidak dikritisi maka kebijakan ini akan terus berjalan. Disinilah peran dari jurnalis yaitu sebagai sarana penghubung antara rakyat dengan pemerintah.
Pemegang kekuasaan juga membutuhkan jurnalis untuk membuat citra baik kekuasaanya melalui media massa. Saat ini, banyak media massa yang dimiliki oleh perseorangan yang digunakan untuk memperoleh kekuasaan dengan banyak memberitakan kegiatan dari partai politik pemilik media tersebut.
Jurnalis dapat menembus ke berbagi sendi kehidupan bermasyarakat, karena setiap orang butuh informasi. Informasi tersebut tidak hanya dinikmati oleh kalangan tertentu saja melainkan oleh semua kalangan yang membutuhkan informasi tersebut. Seiring dengan perkembangan teknologi yang semakin canggih, informasi juga dapat didapat melalui internet yang setiap orang didunia dapat mengaksesnya baik di negara maju maupun negara berkembang.
Oleh karena itu, jurnalis merupakan kegiatan yang mulia karena dapat memberi banyak manfaat kepada orang lain. Bersemangatlah menjadi seorang jurnalis!
