Meaningful learning is a learning process whereby new information is linked to the structures of understanding that a person already in the process of learning is having. Learning takes place when students try to connect new phenomena into their knowledge structures. That is, the lesson material must match the student's abilities and must be relevant to the cognitive structure of the student. Therefore, the lesson should be related to the concepts that students already have, so that the new concepts are completely absorbed by it. Thus, students' emotional intellectual factors are involved in learning activities.
Meaningful learning is a fun lesson that will have the advantage of reaping all the information intact so that the final consequence improves the student's ability. Meaningful learning is a process of linking new information to relevant concepts contained in a person's cognitive structure. Meaningful learning is characterized by the occurrence of relationships between new aspects, concepts, information or situations with relevant components within the student's cognitive structure. The learning process is not just memorizing concepts or facts, but it is an activity of connecting concepts to produce a complete understanding, so that the concepts learned will be well understood and not easily forgotten. Thus, in order to happen meaningful learning then the teacher should always try to find out and explore the concepts that have been owned by learners and help harmoniously combine them with new knowledge to be taught. So learning will be more meaningful if the child experiences firsthand what he or she learns by activating more senses than just listening to the person / teacher explaining. Meaningful learning has the following conditions:• Describe the relationship or relevance of new materials with old materials. First give the most general idea then the more detailed• Shows the similarities and differences between new materials and old materials
• Ensure that existing ideas are mastered completely before new ideas are presented.According Nana (2005) in learning there are conditions that can support the creation of meaningful learning that is:• Materials studied should be linked to substantial and regular cognitive structures.• Students have concepts that match the material to be connected.• Students must have the will to connect the concept with its cognitive structure substantially and also regularly.Ausubel in Dahar (1989) raised three goodnesses of meaningful learning:• Information learned significantly longer can be remembered.• Information learned in a meaningful manner facilitates subsequent learning for similar subject matter.• Information learned in a meaningful way makes it easier to learn similar things even after they have forgotten. The steps of activities that lead to the emergence of meaningful learning are as follows:• Teaching orientation not only in terms of achievement of academic achievement, but also directed to develop attitudes and interest in learning as well as basic potential students.• The topics chosen and studied are based on the child's relevant experience. Lessons are not perceived by the child as a task or something imposed by the teacher, but as part of or as a necessary tool in the child's life.• The teaching method used should get the child involved in a live and playful activity.• In the learning process should be prioritized opportunities for children to play and cooperate with others.• Lesson materials used should be concrete materials• In assessing student learning outcomes, teachers not only emphasize cognitive aspects using written tests, but should include all relevant child behavior domains involving a number of assessment tools.<data: post.body />
